Thinking what to write about is seldom an easy task. The problem might not be a lack of ideas, but rather a bothersome abundance of thoughts. These ideas, they keep pelting me in all directions, each one instructing me in completely different ways as to what I should do with my words. The links which will weave the strands of fabric into cloth are inexistent as yet.

My real problem today is that I haven’t the slightest idea into what cloth I wish to weave my words. I have not planned the conclusion of this piece of work. As yet, I am myself ignorant of the final message that I wish to convey.

At an informal gathering of men and women, one gentleman, taken-over with a cynical feeling of distrust and pessimism, suddenly blurted out: "It’s no use joining these so-called clubs of service. They do not really have the welfare of others at heart. Take their meetings and dinners for example: it’s only an excuse for them to have a good time together." When I asked, "What’s wrong with that?" all conversation ceased. Glasses stopped clinking. There was a deadly silence. Many looked annoyed, and a few even showed signs of disgust. Decidedly, my party was over.

My introduction to Rotary came at the age of three when my father joined the Rotary Club Of Vacoas chartered in 1991.

As a kid, I remember how I enjoyed accompanying my father on different occasions, particularly when the Club organized xmas parties for orphans or less fortunate children of the community. The outings to various places of interest gave me the opportunity not only to discover the country but also to appreciate it better. I found much pleasure in participating in such activities as we got to know others and make new friends, while having a better understanding of life in general.

    Rajah Bhageerutty 1999-00

I became a Charter member of Rotary Club of Vacoas in 1991 with the desire to serve the community. Rotary also gives you the possibility to establish close friendship with people whom otherwise you might have never met or ever known. During my years in Rotary I have had the good fortune to reap a rich harvest of some very good friends. These remains one of the greatest assets of my life.

    The Entertainment Centre

The Consumer Electronics Show is a major international exhibition usually focused on the latest high definition TV (HDTV) or Hi-Fi. Well, guess who were also present at this year’s show alongside Sony, Panasonic or Philips? Well there was… Intel, Microsoft, HP and Dell. Intel was showing a chip which would allow the manufacture of low-cost HDTVs, Microsoft a special version of Windows for manipulating and storing music and pictures.

What a privilege for the Rotary Club of Vacoas to lead the Group Study Exchange Team of our District 9220 for the year 2002-2003. This is the second time, indeed, this high responsibility is entrusted to our Club. The receiving District was no less than the prosperous, fast developing and historical area of Central Belgium: District 2170.

    Happiness

    Charter President
    Jan Nathoo

The quest for happiness is in the very constitution of ma. That is why, from the most depraved man to the vulnerable saint, everybody consciously or unconsciously organises his whole life towards attaining that state of well being which would give him the highest feeling of self fulfillment.

In fact, trying to be happy is to attempt to live our life in such way that there is complete harmony between our thoughts, actions and deeds. And that of course presupposes the existence of a strong will. To the extent that will-power is absent or is weak, however, an individual can only be a passive victim to the vagaries of his mind and the urges of his senses. Whatever initial superficial pleasures he may be derived from giving free rein to the wavering of his mind and from indulging in his senses, before long these bring in their train manifold miseries on varying degrees.

    President Om Varma
    2003-2004

    Dear Fellow Rotarians,

I am pleased to address this message to you after having served the Club as President for almost a year now. I see the opportunity to serve as President as a moment of pride for the trust that my fellow club members placed on me and that of joy for having achieved the ideals that we set ourselves as Rotarians. I also feel a bit nostalgic of the good time that I spent during this year with the support of all my members and the hard work and dedication of all my service chairmen.
