This year the Club undertakes a Mega Project- the extension of the Radio Therapy Unit of the Victoria Hospital. Estimated at Rs1million, part of the funds were collected through a Charity walk by PP Jugdis Bundhoo. Various sponsors now join in to make the project real. Work has started on the site with the support of inhouse Rotarian Jaisen Ramdany.

Mauirtius is having increasing incidences of Cancer patients. While the medical expenses are all born by the State, the Radio Therapy ward needed a thorough uplifting. Rotariansd at Vacoas felt that patients deserve a better space, more caring and comforting one.
 

Thr Project
 After intense negotiations and planning,  the project headed by PE Geerish Soonah, sees the light of the day.

On April 2009, the Ministry handled the official permission and the site for the Club to start its renovation works.

The cost of the project is estimate to reach the mark of a million.

The contractor, a Rotarian of the Vacoas Club itself,  Rtn Jason Ramdany, has put in his personal effort to see to the project to see that it is executed at a minimum cost and that the Club is able to honour its commitment to the Ministry of Health & Quality of life.

  The Rotary Club of Vacoas has taken as mission the task of

providing a new toilet block and an increased waiting area to the Radio Therapy Centre at Candos Hospital.

 The Design for the extension and renovation works was carried out by Francois Wan Ah Fat, Architect and Mr Balraj Pem, Structural Engineer.

 The Architect’s Division of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, represented by Miss Alina Rodnova, has assisted in looking at the technical requirements for obtaining approval for the works.

 On 28 May 2008, approval for going ahead with the project based on the plans submitted was given by the Regional Health Director, Ministry of Health.

 The Rotary Club of Vacoas has appointed trio Development Limited for the construction works. One of its Managing Directors is a member of the Rotary Club of Vacoas.

 Handing over of the site to the Contractor was done on 17 April 2009 in the presence of representatives from Ministry of Health and Public Infrastructure and the Rotary Club of Vacoas.

 The building concrete works will take about three months to complete.

 The Rotary Club of Vacoas will soon invite sponsors to contribute towards the cost of aluminium openings, sanitary fittings, floor tiles and furniture items in the waiting area.

 Current status of works:

 The Contractor has mobilised on site, started excavation for strip foundations for the waiting area extension. Materials (rock sand, aggregate and steel reinforcement) have been delivered for casting the concrete foundations in the next week.
