Creativity Award
 |
The award is named called the
Heman Guness Creativity Award, in remembrance of Heman Guness, a charter
member of the club who passed away at a very young age of 42 years.
The competition was open to students of Forms VI
in Mauritius and Rodrigues. They were required to write an essay writing on
"Ethics- based on the Four Way Test"
The winners were:
First Prize: Sandy Mariaye, Loreto College, Quatre Bornes,
Second Prize: Nejran ALLYBOKUS,
Notre
Dames College
Third Prize: Neville RAMCHURRUN, Universal College.

Reading
project

|
The Club has a long
association with the Edith Cowan University, Perth, Western Australia. Trainees
from the ECU held a reading project for children in a three schools and donated
books to the schools. |
| Family Day
 |
Day out for Rotary members and
their family.
Rotary values the family and strives to get all the family members
involved in its projects and activities. |

Interview Skills

|
One of the regular projects of the Club, in
association with the University of Mauritius. It aims at helping young
university graduates to develop interview skills. This project got the support
of the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Ameena Fakim-Gurib and was at its 5th
edition in 2007. The speakers were Mrs Su Lin Onsiong, DCDM, Mrs Ramlackhan,
Rogers Group, Mr Raj Maudho, Senior Chief Executive, Prime Minister's Office. |

Reading project to Celebrate the World book Day.

Rotary Club of Vacoas associated with the trainees
of the Mauritius Institute of Education to hold a whole day reading project to
celebrate the World Book day at Score Jumbo, Phoenix. It was attended by about

Adoption of Henrietta Government School- needy students

|
30 pupils of the Henrietta Goverment School, in a relatively deprived area, have been identified
by the school. These children will need material and other support so as to
successfully complete their education. The Club donated essential materials and
-plans to follow up the progress of those children with the assistance of educational psychologists and educational
social Workers of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources. |

Charity Walk
 |
Charity Walk to support some of the forth coming
projects. Children with muscular dystrophy, extension of Oncology Department
(Waiting room of Cancer Outpatients) at the Candos Hospital and continued sponsorship of needy children of Henrietta
Government School. |

Reading project

|
The Club provided the reading materials for a
reading project started by the Mauritius Institute of Education at the Pandit Sahadeo Government school. This is a continuation of the project of the Edith
Cowan University and the reading materials have been partly donated by the ECU,
Western Australia.

Donation of ICT facilities for William Huntley Pre-Primary
School.
 |
The Club sponsored the opening of the
William Huntley Government School in 1994, named after the RI President William
Huntley. Ever since the Club has been regularly sponsoring the school. This year
it donated a computer, printer and proposes to provide a training of the
personnel to use ICT facilities in the school. The donation was attended by the
Chairman of the Pre-School Trust Fund, Mr Sahadew and the |District Governor,
Randhir Ramloll.

Road Map of Vacoas
 |
Vacoas-Phoenix were the only Urban area in Mauritius
that did not have an official Road Map. This project took a long time to
complete and the map was finally donated to the Municipality of Vacoas-Phoenix.
Now it is displayed at the Municipality and some prominent places in Vacoas-Phoenix
area.

Empowerment Programme

|
The Club is embarking in an empowerment programme
designed to provide financial assistance to young adults who have left school
with a minimum of education and who do not have the opportunity to join any
formal training. The first person to be sponsored is a young lady who is
learning to become a tailor. The Club undertakes to provide financial assistance
for about thee years and follow up the progress of the trainee, with the
ultimate aim to provide the necessary assistance for her to start her own
workshop in the future. |
