A Reading Project was carried out in four schools, with the support of trainees from the University of Edith Cowan. 21 trainees were distributed in four different schools, namely Louis Nellan Government School, Quatre-Bornes; Vel Govinden Government School, Beau Bassin; Curepipe Road Government School, Curepipe Road and Seeneevassen Government school, Cassis. This project aimed at developing a love for reading among children in the third standard, and to explore possibilities for developing activities outside the classroom that engages children in learning languages in a pleasant and joyful environment.

The Australian High Commissioner, Ian MacConville, who is also a Honourary Member of the Rotary Club of Vacoas, expressed his appreciation for the enthusiasm displayed by the Australian trainees. The president of the Club Pr Jugdis Bundhoo expressed his thanks and appreciation to the tutors, Professor Judith Rivalland and Janet Fellows, who accompanied the trainees and who organised the reading project for the second year. The trainees also donated books to each school, which they had brought, through the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Perth. This project has been made possible through the support of Past President Om Varma, who has been coordinating the visit of the Australian Trainees through the Mauritius Institute of Education that assists them during their visit in Mauritius.
