What is the current outlook for polio eradication? It still looks good — despite some unexpected setbacks in Africa. India saw only about 100 cases in 2004, compared to nearly 2,000 in 2002. We are now conducting coordinated NIDs [National Immunization Days] in West and Central Africa, and political opposition has been substantially halted.
