The Rotary Club of Vacoas also offered books to the following schools: N. Saddul Secondary School; and primary schools-Renuion Govt School; Quinze Cantons Govt School; N. Saddul Government School; Visitation RCA school; Emilien Rochecoustre Govt School; Emilien Rochecoustre Pre-Primary School; William Huntley Pre-Primary School, Reunion, Vacoas. The latter is a school that was set up by the Rotary Club of Vacoas in 1993 and named after the Past Rotary International President. The Head Teachers and PTA representatives were present to received the donation.
The books and stationery were offered by an Australian trainee teacher of Edith Cowan University. The latter has a regular Teaching Practice programme for its trainees since 6 years now. The trainee, Miss Jan Cable who visited Mauritius last year, collected the books in Australia which were transported to Mauritius with the sponsorship of Air Mauritius.
The Ministry of Education was represented by Dr (Mrs) Gukhool, Director for Zone 4. She stressed on the appreciation of the Minister of Education for the support of the Rotary Club of Vacoas and also praised the Visitation School for participating in the exchange project.
The President of Rotary of Vacoas pointed out that the project could be extended to other schools as well. He also informed that a project for loan of books by Alliance Française was underway with the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Vacoas. Five schools have been identified as a pilot project. If successful, the Rotary Club will extend its sponsorship to other schools as well.
Another main project of the International Service of the Club this year has been the sponsorship of Cardiac Unit, SSRN National Hospital. The Club is sponsoring the Conference Room that is scheduled to welcome an international gathering of Heart Surgeons who will follow live operations on young children performed by Professor Kalangos from Geneva.
