At an informal gathering of men and women, one gentleman, taken-over with a cynical feeling of distrust and pessimism, suddenly blurted out: "It’s no use joining these so-called clubs of service. They do not really have the welfare of others at heart. Take their meetings and dinners for example: it’s only an excuse for them to have a good time together." When I asked, "What’s wrong with that?" all conversation ceased. Glasses stopped clinking. There was a deadly silence. Many looked annoyed, and a few even showed signs of disgust. Decidedly, my party was over.
